When Charles Darwin penned his book On the Origin of Species, he launched nothing short of a revolution that has impacted every facet of life down to our day. His ideas have permeated math, science, history, and even theology and has created this idea that science and the Bible cannot coexist. To be scientific means to be in opposition to God. What if that were not true, though? What if the study of science lead to deeper faith in God? Can they coexist?

There are over 320 million “gods” in the world today and 22 major religious systems among the 7 billion people on this planet. With all those religions and gods to worship, how can the Bible claim that there is only ONE way to heaven…that there is only ONE God? Is it logical to claim that the God of the Bible is really who He says He is? How can we believe that there is only one God and one Lord, Jesus Christ?

The challenge of modern apologetics is not simply one of having enough evidence that demands a verdict. It’s deeper than that. It begins by addressing the deep confusion and challenge presented by our modern world that has had its moral moorings set adrift in a sea of relativism. To be prepared to give a reason for the hope in us, we must first understand this lostness and know how to address it with grace and truth.

One of the challenges of following Jesus is this tricky thing called “evangelism.” According to statistics, most Christians do not share their faith these days. Some don’t see it as their responsibility, but many avoid evangelism out of fear. They lack confidence because they are afraid of not having the right answers to someone’s questions. The Apostle Peter tells us that not only are we all supposed to share our faith, it doesn’t need to be difficult or limited only to those who are smart enough to win a debate. Apologetics is for everyone, everyday!

On this Sunday, all over the globe, more than a billion people will celebrate and hear the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. Over 1 billion people will hear about palm branches being waved and sing songs with the word “Hosanna” in it in remembrance of this moment in the life of Jesus. How many of those billion plus people, though, are responding to Jesus’ call to humble submission? How many love Jesus because of what they think He can do for them but when it comes to the hard stuff, they struggle? How about you?

At the end of Joseph’s life, we catch a glimpse of the fear his brothers still carried around because of what they had done. When Jacob died, the brothers were terrified that this was going to be the moment Joseph had been waiting for all these years. Joseph had to remind these fear-filled men that God’s plans were better and that when God is with you, there is no need for fear!

Joseph could have been bitter when his brothers showed up asking for help. He could have done pretty much anything he wanted to exact revenge on those who sold him into slavery. Instead, Joseph chose to forgive and to let go of his grudges because he understood that forgiveness brings healing. He understood that God had used even the tough things in Joseph’s life to shape him and holding a grudge doesn’t lead us to where God wants us to go!

Sunday Mar 23, 2025

Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Joseph was left to rot in an Egyptian jail. Even though he was faithful and honest while in prison, he still had to experience loneliness and was forgotten by everyone until the right moment. Joseph never lost hope, though. Even though he was in prison, he found a hope and a freedom in God that is available to all of us, no matter our circumstances.
