Joseph could have been bitter when his brothers showed up asking for help. He could have done pretty much anything he wanted to exact revenge on those who sold him into slavery. Instead, Joseph chose to forgive and to let go of his grudges because he understood that forgiveness brings healing. He understood that God had used even the tough things in Joseph’s life to shape him and holding a grudge doesn’t lead us to where God wants us to go!

Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Joseph was left to rot in an Egyptian jail. Even though he was faithful and honest while in prison, he still had to experience loneliness and was forgotten by everyone until the right moment. Joseph never lost hope, though. Even though he was in prison, he found a hope and a freedom in God that is available to all of us, no matter our circumstances.

Joseph thought he was in control of his path and his destiny, but life has a way of throwing us curve balls. Joseph never planned to lose his freedom and his control in one fell swoop. He never thought his brothers would sell him as a slave. He never thought he’d end up in Egypt, but God had a plan for Joseph. Even though that plan involved some really tough things, God’s plan was better. All Joseph had to do was let go!

Joseph was a dreamer. In fact, it was his dreams that originally got him into trouble! Later on in his life, Joseph’s dreams were fulfilled…but not in any way he ever thought possible. We all have dreams and plans for our lives. Often times, however, those dreams are way too small. When we allow God to take over and we give up our dreams for His dreams, we experience something so much better than we would have ever imagined.

DEVOTED to Evangelism

Sunday Mar 02, 2025

Sunday Mar 02, 2025

As the early church devoted themselves to living the way of Christ, they couldn’t help but grow. God kept bringing more and more and more people into the family and the first disciples saw it as part of their mission to go and share the Gospel with anyone they encountered. They did it in their hometowns and even around the whole known world. The Bible shows us that all these early followers were devoted to the idea that everyone should reach one.

DEVOTED to Authenticity

Sunday Feb 23, 2025

Another key characteristic of those early Jesus followers was their authenticity. They weren’t trying to be showy or ostentatious. They were who they were, struggles and all, and that was a hallmark of their commitment to Christ. Our world and many churches are filled with fake followers and fake leaders who are always trying to put on their best for others. Their services are shows and their faith is surface level at most. We are called to be different. We are called to authenticity!

DEVOTED to Meeting Needs

Sunday Feb 16, 2025

Sunday Feb 16, 2025

There’s this phrase in Acts 2 that is pretty profound. It says in verse 45: 'And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. ‘ This was radical stuff. We know from future passages in Acts, that they took all the funds and they set up teams of people to meet those needs. They served others and made sure that everyone’s needs were met. We see in this a key component of what it means to be devoted to Jesus - we get in the game and serve!

DEVOTED to Generosity

Sunday Feb 09, 2025

Sunday Feb 09, 2025

One of the greatest markers of genuine faith in Jesus is connected to our level of generosity. Everything in creation is designed with a bent towards giving…except for humans. Even when you think about Creation itself, everything was created to give. We are never more like God than when we are generous, but we often struggle with this one. Part of the problem is we have forgotten that God is the owner, and we are just managers or stewards. We are designed to be streams of blessing not reservoirs!

DEVOTED to Prayer

Sunday Feb 02, 2025

Sunday Feb 02, 2025

This one seems pretty basic and “churchy” but there definitely seems to be a good bit of confusion and/or lack of interest or knowledge on how to be devoted to prayer like the early church was. Sure, we pray for meals or when someone is in the hospital, and we know we’re supposed to pray at church but what does it mean to be devoted to prayer? What might it look like if we decided to fight on our knees?
